Hi my name is Melanie and I would like to welcome you to Sunflower Photography.

I wanted to take a few minuets to tell you a little bit about myself and about why
photography is an important part of my life. At first it started out as a way for me to
capture those once in a lifetime memories of my children, first steps, favorite actives,
birthday’s, vacations, ect. Then I started to look at photography as a form of art or
expression and I started to see beauty in some unexpected places – this changed some
of the most everyday experiences for me and I began to loose myself in shooting those
images. What I have found is that photography of all avenues allows me to express
myself in a way I never believed possible before; and quickly became something I truly
love doing.

Photography is both an art and a science, which requires passion, detail and creativity. By
understanding the balance of light and exposure you can create a beautiful image that will
last a lifetime. For some the idea of this is something that is lost as taking a picture is not
an art form for them it is simply something to do. For me photography changes the way
I look at things, I notice light, shapes, colors, textures, people, buildings, nature and so
many other things in a whole new way. A great photograph is something that can speak
to anyone regardless of language and being able to speak to people in such a diverse way
is truly an amazing opportunity.

As I said earlier I started my interest in photography because of my children, as I did this
I soon realized that capturing children is another amazing thing to experience when doing
photography as they see the world differently; it is a truly inspiring experience seeing the
world as they do – so carefree and full of awe. Anytime I go out to capture a day I look
forward to the story that will come with it but when capturing a child that storey is never
ending, you can start telling this storey before they are born and follow them through
their life experiences as they grow and discover whom they are.
